Our virtual program spans animation, filmmaking, videogames, and the fascinating story of the moving image. Each session goes for forty-five-minutes and includes interactive activities and student participation. Post-lesson activities offer opportunities for further discovery. Lessons are delivered via Zoom with teachers receiving resources and log-in details at least a fortnight prior to the lesson.

FAQ

Q: I haven't used Zoom before, can we use another video conferencing system instead?

A: Unfortunately not. We have been using Zoom for many years now and find it perfect for our Virtual Lessons. Zoom operates very similarly to other videoconferencing systems and joining your booked Virtual Lesson will be both easy and safe. We rarely encounter technical issues that prevent participants from joining, however, we run a regular test meeting every Monday afternoon to give participants an opportunity to ensure Zoom is working for them. These test meetings are open to teachers first as well as parents and students who may be learning from home.

Q: Is the Virtual Lesson just for me and my class, or for others?

A: Each Virtual Lesson can only be booked once, so it's your lesson, for your students only.

Q: What is ACMI doing to ensure the security and safety of students when in these lessons?

A: We understand concerns around the security of online videoconferences, but rest assured that each lesson has its own unique ID and passcode. These details are made accessible to the booking teacher only (who can then pass on details where appropriate to parents or students). We also have an ACMI Education staff member in each Virtual Lesson to moderate, monitor and manage the meeting.

Q: Do we have to log in and join well before the lesson start time?

A: Each lesson has a 'waiting room' meaning teachers and students can log in early and wait until the lesson starts. We recommend all participants doing this at least 10 minutes before start time if possible. Teachers are welcome to join early so ACMI staff can touch base with you and find out a little more about you and your students.
