“Writing comics gives me the freedom that a film shoot couldn't”

Join artist Jade Kennedy for one of our unique comic making workshops this summer.

Discover the secrets behind Ryan Griffen and Wolfgang Bylsma's original Cleverman comic with a guided tour of our Cleverman exhibition before learning the theory, tools and tips to create your own comic art.

We'll also delve into cultural mythology to inspire your own characters and comic stories and experiment with digital and traditional illustration techniques.

No drawing or comic creation experience necessary!

Jade Kennedy

Jade Kennedy incorporates his Mutti Mutti, Tatti Tatti, Waddi Waddi and Noongar people heritage in his art work. From Robinvale in northwest Victoria, he has lived and worked in Bairnsdale, East Gippsland for the past five years. Jade primarily creates portraits and incorporates traditional Noongar and Koorie designs into his work. His art tells a story of where he comes from and who he is. As an emerging artist, Jade experiments with digital technology, painting and woodburning, researching tradition as he seeks his own signature style. His successful exhibitions include NAIDOC 2014, Land and Sea 2015 at the Forge Theatre Bairnsdale and NAIDOC Sacred Ground at Krowathunkooloong Keeping Place Bairnsdale 2015. He has also exhibited comic artwork, along side Lin Onus, in the  Marramb-ik (I am) exhibition at the Melbourne Museum. Jade has recently developed commercial artwork for a range of businesses including Athletics Australia, Koorie Heritage Trust and Mullum-Mullum.
