This September, we celebrate three visionaries of fashion – British retail revolutionary John Simons, Australian milliner Felicity 'Flic' Brown and Belgian co-founder of Maison Martin Margiela, Jenny Meirens.
All three have changed the course of fashion in their own unique way – creating trends, championing new ways of dressing and seeing clothes in a new light.
John Simons challenged post-war British boringness with a bold and youthful approach to fashion showing musicians, actors and celebrities a new way to express themselves through clothes.
Martin Margiela’s unsung and overlooked co-founder, Jenny Meirens, ushered in a new era of dressing, introducing the world to a minimalist approach to clothing as an antidote to the power-dressing 1980s.
And closer to home, the milliner with Olivia Newton-John charm Flic Brown is wowing the world with her headpieces crafted from natural materials found on her doorstep in Broome.
Exclusive to ACMI, Fashion on Film 2018 is presented as part of the cultural program of Melbourne Fashion Week.
