In collaboration with Open House Melbourne, we're exploring the world of modernist architecture at home and across the USA. We look back at some of the Australian pioneers of modernism and revisit the work of photographer Julius Shulman, who helped to define the mid-century modern movement through his powerful photographs. And we take a trip through some of the landmark mid-century marvels created by architect Eero Saarinen stunningly captured by his cinematographer son, Eric.
Some of these landmark buildings can been seen (again) in all their glory in the Australian premiere of Columbus, with beautifully rendered performances by Haley Lu Richardson and John Cho. Met with unanimous critical praise, Columbus “unfolds in a series of grandly composed frames that range from fanatically symmetrical interior shots to boldly geometric exterior shots showcasing the local gems” (J.R. Jones, Chicago Reader).
Celebrate this era of architecture as it deserves to be seen, on the big screen.
