Naveh (Amir Aghaee from 2016's Bodyguard) is involved in a car accident on the way home from work one evening. The working-class family in the other vehicle are mostly shaken but not harmed, except for Amir, a young boy who complains of a sore head.
Naveh, a coroner in the medical examiner’s office, immediately takes control of the situation avoiding police involvement and suggesting the family go to a nearby clinic to rule out a concussion. Despite this advice, when Naveh arrives at work the following day he finds Amir’s body, awaiting an autopsy.
Director Vahid Jalilvand’s follows Wednesday, May 9 with another take on the intersections and miscommunications between classes in Iran, as a middle-class man inserts himself in the struggles of a working-class family to mixed results. Navid Mohammadzadeh gives a career-best performance as a father overwhelmed by guilt as he grieves the loss of his son, incredibly vulnerable, but also teetering dangerously on the edge of self-control. For his performance, he received the award for Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival in the Horizons section, where Vahid Jalilvand also won for Best Director.
