“Glows with respect and affection for its title characters. An irresistible homage to the iconic comedy duo”
The closing chapter in the illustrious careers of legendary comedy duo, Laurel and Hardy, is brought to the screen in uncannily note-perfect characterizations by Steve Coogan as Stan Laurel and John C. Reilly as Oliver Hardy.
Set in 1953, with their peak Hollywood years behind them, the pair embarks on a variety hall tour of Britain and Ireland that brings up painful memories from their showbiz heyday. With a wonderful script by Jeff Pope – Coogan’s co-writer on Philomena – Jon S. Baird’s hugely enjoyable comedy drama also features Shirley Henderson and Nina Arianda; perfectly cast as the comedians’ formidable wives, Lucille and Ida.
