A 'desperate' housewife constructs a new identity in order to even the scales in this cult US indie thriller.

This low-budget, independent Texan production is notable for taking elements of the Woman's Nightmare film - trauma, revenge, identity-transformation - and locating them within a hyper-naturalist, everyday framework. Proceeding mysteriously and gradually, without overt explanations, it follows the path of a rape victim to its devastating conclusion.

A little-known but unique combination of art-cinema minimalism with the rawness of a B-movie. Anderson's similarly deadpan installation Drive-By Shooting appeared in ACMI's Proof exhibition.

Imported 35mm print.
