El Topo
El Topo
Jodorowsky plays the title role of a mysterious black-clad gunslinger on a whacked-out spiritual pilgrimage through the desert with his young son and two beautiful women.

Seized upon by New York's counterculture, the film became the original midnight movie, playing the old Elgin Theatre throughout 1971. Reminiscent of Buñuel in its use of religious themes and stylised absurdity, El Topo was embraced by the likes of John Lennon, Dennis Hopper and Timothy Leary.

"A Western on acid. A violent, brutal, confusing, occasionally fascinating and allegorical film [that] infuses the violence of Sam Peckinpah, the style of Sergio Leone and the eroticism of Fernando Arrabal" Cult Movies in Sixty Seconds
