Near Dark
Caleb (Adrian Pasdar, Heroes) is an Oklahoma boy who gets misty-eyed over an ice-cream lovin' lass named Mae (Jenny Wright) one forlorn midwestern evening. When Mae lands a nick on his neck rather than the kiss he'd hoped for, Caleb goes off solids and develops an aversion to sunlight.
He ends up hitting the road with Mae's rag-tag vampire kin, Jesse Hooker (Lance Henrickson), Severin (Bill Paxton) and Diamondback (Jenette Goldstein) but finds the after-dark lifestyle a doozie of a challenge.
Kathryn Bigelow's Southern Gothic genre outing was an auspicious debut for the director who went on to direct Blue Steel (1989), Strange Days (1995) and this year's Oscar-acclaimed Iraq-set action thriller The Hurt Locker.
