The Silent House (La casa muda)
Premiering at a much hyped screening in Cannes' Directors' Fortnight, this no-budget, single take nail-biter takes a simple premise - a woman, a dark, creaky house, some really creepy noises coming from upstairs - and turns it on its head.
Faster than you can say "get out of the house" our unfortunate heroine heads upstairs to investigate, armed only with a feeble, battery-powered lantern and a reckless attitude.
Director Gustavo Hernández uses the single take point of view of the camera to frightening effect, offering no escape for his protagonist and the audience who are right beside her for one very long, terrifying night.
