What's New Pussycat?
Peter Sellers, Peter O'Toole and Woody Allen head an all-star cast in a riotously zany mad-cap romp from the mid '60s co-starring Romy Schneider, Capucine, Paula Prentiss and Ursula Andress.
Woody Allen (in his feature screenwriting and acting debut) drew inspiration from the exploits of notorious Hollywood womaniser, Warren Beatty.
Despite Sellers' sustained efforts to scene-steal, Allen's script makes the most of hilarious references to everything from Dr. No to European art-house cinema in a spot-on spoof of Fellini's 8 ½ (with O'Toole rather more entertainingly brandishing cape and whip in the style of Marcello Mastroianni than Daniel Day Lewis' joyless neurotic in Rob Marshall's recent musical, Nine).
Burt Bacharach's score, Hal David's lyrics and Tom Jones' jaunty signature title track add to the comedic hijinks.
