Ralph Rucci, the first American designer in decades invited to show at Paris haute couture under his own name, is best known for his innovative use of fabrics.

On the eve of Rucci's 2008 autumn couture collection, filmmaker David Boatman immerses himself in Rucci's gloriously luxurious world. Narrated by Rucci client Martha Stewart.

"We don't make couture to sell nail polish. We make couture and women write the checks for this. I don't put clothes like this on the red carpet. These clothes go privately to homes, I'm proud to say" Ralph Rucci

"Mr Rucci belongs to the heroic ranks of Balenciaga, Madame Grès and Halston" Cathy Horyn, The New York Times
