Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid
Iconoclastic auteur, Sam (The Wild Bunch) Peckinpah's elegiac western teamed a magnificent, gravel-voiced James Coburn as a sell-out lawman and Kris Kristofferson as young gun and marked man, William Bonney, fallen foul of the law and his former riding buddy.

In an eloquent take on the film's antagonists, Garrett Chaffin-Quiray wrote: "Peckinpah spun Pat Garrett into a tragic character epitomizing compromise and released Billy into the stratosphere of idealism."

Bob Dylan - who has a small role as a frontier drifter named Alias - scored the film and contributes the haunting Knockin' on heaven's door.
