Godard's hyper-pop homage to Howard Hawks'
The Big Sleep was the director's final film to star his long time muse (and then ex-wife) Anna Karina and signalled his most politically radicalised film to date.
A trench coat-clad Karina (read Bogart) stalks around the super stylised frame in search for her missing lover's assassin. Along the way, our heroine finds some dead bodies, creates some more of her own (!) and all the while offers up a breezy, charm-infused performance where every costume change and slight movement of her exquisite face potentially holds the key to unlocking the mystery at play.
Co-starring
