Godard's hyper-pop homage to Howard Hawks' The Big Sleep was the director's final film to star his long time muse (and then ex-wife) Anna Karina and signalled his most politically radicalised film to date.

A trench coat-clad Karina (read Bogart) stalks around the super stylised frame in search for her missing lover's assassin. Along the way, our heroine finds some dead bodies, creates some more of her own (!) and all the while offers up a breezy, charm-infused performance where every costume change and slight movement of her exquisite face potentially holds the key to unlocking the mystery at play.

Co-starring nouvelle vague favourite Jean-Pierre Léaud and '60s icon Marianne Faithfull (in a curious musical cameo), this rarely seen film has been lovingly restored and, in the eyes of J. Hoberman, is "arguably the most quintessentially 'Godardian' of the filmmaker's great Breathless to Weekend period (1960-67)" - a delicious proposition for any cinefile!

Screens in newly restored 35mm print.
