Partly based on the real life disappearance of Sydney activist and journalist Juanita Nielsen, Heatwave depicts a complex web of corruption that surrounds the proposed redevelopment of a poor inner-city Sydney neighbourhood and the fight that ensues between the residents and the powerful property developers.

Judy Davis stars as the fiesty activist who bangs heads with the architect of the high rise, played by Richard Moir - and naturally with tension comes romance.

Director Philip Noyce followed up his debut Newsfront with this classy thriller, exposing the links between Sydney's powerbrokers and the seedier side of Kings Cross.
