Hot Summer (Heißer sommer)
Two groups of teens hitchhike to the Baltic Sea for the summer in this musical starring East Germany's biggest pop stars, Chris Doerk and Frank Schöbel.
Produced after a number of films about teenagers were banned, Hot Summer was a breakthrough in unrestrained entertainment, albeit one which still contained a state-approved ideological message.
Often referred to as East Germany's Grease, the blend of pop, rock and upbeat lyrics kept the soundtrack at the top of the charts for more than a year and made this the hottest film of 1968.
