Stay Awake (Jagte raho)
Raj Kapoor is his slapstick, Chaplin-esque best as a tramp on the hunt for a glass of water, wandering into a luxury Calcutta building and exposing the behind-closed-doors perversions of Calcutta's upper middle class.
This ironic, socialist comedy-thriller directed by Sombhu Mitra and Amit Maitra bears a distinct similarity to the Bengali art-film tradition familiar to Western viewers of the films of Satyajit Ray and was the first Indian film to win the Grand Prix at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival.
