Inspired by Hollywood melodramas of the '50s (notably Douglas Sirk's
All That Heaven Allows), director François Ozon assembles the crème de la crème
au feminin of French cinema and strands them in a snowbound mansion in which a murder has just been committed.
Deneuve - among a glamorous cast that also features Isabelle Huppert, Fanny Ardant and Emmanuelle Beart - is a magisterial presence in full Lana Turner mode.
In typical Deneuve fashion, she betrays no hint of discomposure when called upon by Ozon to sing, shimmy or to seduce co-star Ardant.
