Genealogies of a Crime
The fabulist films of Chilean-born, French-based Ruiz typically confound narrative stability and he certainly takes to the task with zeal in this terrific, genre-skewering murder mystery.

Of Catherine Deneuve's performance in Ruiz's cerebral comedy, film critic Adrian Martin writes: "Deneuve is her best implacable 'sleepwalker' self, gliding into a strange world of identities swapped, doubled and forgotten that has the charged décor of Hitchcock's Rebecca and Marnie".

Ruiz's sophisticated satire also stars Michel Piccoli, Melvil Poupaud (A Summer's Tale, Le Divorce) and Mathieu Amalric (Kings and Queen).
