The Hunger
Tony Scott's erotically spiked neo-noir is peopled by an after-dark Manhattan demimonde waking up to the nightmare of AIDS in the '80s.

Catherine Deneuve is Miriam, an impeccably groomed vampire desperate to arrest the imminent demise of her centuries old and fast-degenerating lover, John (David Bowie).

Dr. Sarah Roberts (Susan Sarandon) initially dismisses John as a crank, but regrets her haste when she realises the extent of his condition. Mysteriously drawn to Miriam ( "she's European" she tells her suspicious boyfriend ) Sarah sets scientific analysis aside to be initiated into Miriam's seductively 'foreign' brand of erotic ritual.
