Join the inaugural Game Girls gala day promoting game development as an exciting and creative career path for young women.

Throughout this entertainment-packed day, established female game developers will discuss their experiences in this male-dominated industry and demonstrate their skills.

Game Girls is designed to illustrate how women can find exciting and rewarding careers in the games industry as programmers, designers, artists and writers.

Presented by ACMI and Women in Games in association with the Academy of Interactive Entertainment, the Victorian Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and Multimedia Victoria.

Schedule

Welcome > Featuring Sheridan Meulblok (Good Game, ABC2) and Game Girls partner representatives.

Session 1 > An overview of working in the games sector, and explores how women can kick start their career in the industry.

Session 2 (Breakout A: Art and Graphics) > Georgia Patton provides practical information on becoming a 3D graphics artist, including a showcase of work by established industry artists.

Session 2 (Breakout B: Technology) > Sound designer and programmer Katherine Neil offers practical information on becoming a games programmer, including a practical demonstration of interactivity in games.

Session 3 > Sheridan Meulblok and Jessica Smith explore Media and Psychology - alternative careers and aspects around the games industry - leading games commentators discuss their professions and the paths that led them there.

Session 4 > Game developer and educator Paul Callaghan and games designer Moran Paldi will host a workshop where groups will get hands-on with the design process by conceiving a game around your favourite TV franchise.

Session 5 > Wrap up and prizes.
