Akira
Specially chosen by videogame designer Hideo Kojima
Set in Neo-Tokyo, a reconstructed version of the Japanese capital destroyed after a nuclear war, a young biker discovers that he has dangerous supernatural powers that he is struggling to contain, possibly moving Neo-Tokyo toward another apocalypse.
Based on the popular manga comics and considered a classic of its genre, Akira boasts lavish animation design and an incredible ear-splitting soundtrack, depicting a very Japanese obsession with nuclear annihilation.
The creator of the Metal Gear series, Hideo Kojima, has infused his games with a distinctly cinematic look and feel, combining complex storyline with visceral game play. Kojima's 1988 game Snatcher owes much to the post-apocalyptic cyberpunk aesthetic of the manga classic Akira.
The screening will be introduced by a specially recorded message from game designer Hideo Kojima.
