Idiot's Delight
Idiot's Delight
Based on Robert E. Sherwood's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name, this comedy-drama stars Norma Shearer and Clark Gable and centres on a group of travellers who become stranded at an Alpine hotel during the war.

Shearer collaborated with costume designer Adrian a unique fashion on all her films and Idiot's Delight was no exception. Shearer was the only star at MGM whose costumes were not fitted directly onto a dress dummy; instead she tried on each costume for hours in an important ritual for her realisation of a role.

For her character in Idiot's Delight, Irene Fellara, Adrian created a wardrobe which follows Irene's transformation from an acrobat to a phoney Russian countess, swapping frilly white blouses with boots, capes and dramatic hats. The costume designer would later recall Idiot's Delight as one of his favourite films. Imported print!
