Organisational Environment
A globally unique cultural institution located at the heart of Melbourne's iconic Federation Square, ACMI celebrates, explores and promotes the cultural and creative richness of the moving image in all its forms.
Through a vibrant annual calendar of award-winning exhibitions, film, festivals, live events, creative workshops, education programs and Collection resources, ACMI provides a wide diversity of audiences with an unsurpassed range of ways to engage with the moving image. As one of Victoria's major cultural, tourism and learning attractions, and a national centre of screen culture debate and innovation, ACMI has an international reputation as one of the world's leading moving image centres.
This reputation has been further enhanced in September 2009 with the opening of a suite of new content offers and facilities. This includes a major world-first, free-of-charge permanent gallery, Screen Worlds, that charts the history and future directions of the moving image in all its forms - film, television, videogames and digital culture. This is one of the most exciting and ambitious arts and film projects in Australia, and has already made a major mark on the international stage.
The Australian Mediatheque is a significant new partnership between ACMI and the National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA). The Australian Mediatheque is a unique national cultural resource centre providing public access to a wealth of Australian and international screen culture history, spanning film, television, digital culture, video art and sound materials.
ACMI operates as an innovative, dynamic, performance-orientated cultural business, self-directed though within the Victorian public sector. ACMI seeks to nurture an entrepreneurial team spirit delivering varied cultural, creative and performance aims. In an environment of hard-working but passionate enthusiasm for our subject-matter and audiences, ACMI aims to provide rich opportunities for staff and organisational interests to thrive.
