At Night, They Dance
Set in downtown Cairo, this award-winning documentary sheds light on the chaotic world of the Egyptian belly dancers working in the area.
Over a period of months, the film follows a working-class family, including Reda, a retired dancer, and her three eldest daughters, Hind, Bussy and Amira.
Whilst at times there is an element of danger in their work, the real action takes place within the tiny apartment the three girls share with their pregnant mother and four younger siblings.
The stage is set for an explosion of emotion, deceit and heartbreak as the girls attempt to keep their lives in control and their unruly mother at bay.
At Night, They Dance featured at the Cannes Directors' Fortnight.
