Albert Markovski (Jason Schwartzman, Louis XVI in Sofia Coppola's
Marie Antoinette) is an acutely angst-ridden environmental activist railing against corporate greed.
A series of coincidences leads him to two 'existential detectives' (in the hilarious form of Lily Tomlin and Dustin Hoffman) prepared to give him a psychic once-over.
To their consternation, their former protégé and intellectual rival, philosopher Catherine Vauban (Huppert), becomes involved and is soon instructing Albert in old-fashioned nihilism and the therapeutic benefits of a good roll in the mud.
