| La vie promise |
Sylvia (Huppert) is a streetwalker, plying her trade in Nice. Her teenage daughter, Laurence, ditches foster care, determined to restore some kind of bond with her disaffected mother.
When the two are forced to flee, Sylvia hits upon the idea of seeking refuge with the father of a son she hasn't seen in eight years.
J. Hoberman said this about Huppert in his
Village Voice review: "this superb actress can register more fugitive shifts in expression in a single take than most actresses manage in an entire movie."
