Join internationally renowned artist Candice Breitz, as she provides context and insight into her large-scale video installations on display at ACMI.
Berlin-based South African Candice Breitz creates playful yet astute works that may be read either as critiquing or celebrating our fascination with celebrity and pop culture.
In Mother + Father (2005), clips of Hollywood stars are remixed and recontextualised to create a conversation that holds a mirror to gender and familial representation on film.
King (A Portrait of Michael Jackson) (2005) brings together fans that sing in disembodied unison the major works of their musical hero Michael Jackson.
The conversation, hosted by Dr Daniel Palmer (Monash University), will reflect upon Breitz's vast catalogue of previous work and her unique methodologies. It will also be the first opportunity to hear Breitz discuss her major new video installation.
