From Hell to Hell
In the turmoil of World War II, a young about-to-be-deported Jewish couple is forced to give up their daughter to a childless Polish couple, to save her from death.
Miraculously, both the father and mother survive and return to their hometown to reclaim their child, who by now has disappeared with her foster parents.
From this fraught situation, the filmmakers have created an extraordinary human drama that will be remembered as one of the very best films to have ever been made about Polish anti-Semitism.
It was Belorussia's official nomination for Best Foreign Film at the 1997 Academy Awards.
20th anniversary retrospective.
