Leave the Stones There
Peter Janos Zoltan, 50 mins, Australia, 2008
As the daughter of Holocaust survivors, Julie Szego grew up with the death camps as conversation. At times, it was all too much. She resented the shadow of her parents past in wartime falling over her comfortable life in Australia.
Now an adult, and herself a mother, Julie struggles to better accept her inheritance. She helped her father write his memoirs and regularly explores the Holocaust's legacy in her newspaper columns. And then, a few years ago, she joined her parents on a pilgrimage to their childhood villages of Korosladany and Mezobereny.

Avi Mograbi, 81 mins, Israel, 2008, Hebrew with English subtitles
An Israeli military veteren undergoes a crisis of conscience as he recounts his involvement in an operation in which two Palestinian policemen were killed in retaliation for the ambush and murder of six Israeli soldiers.
The film becomes a confessional for the former soldier, who faces the camera to speak to his girlfriend about the incident - and begs viewers to get involved in the moral issues raised.
With his face partially concealed, the young soldier reveals the contradictions between the adrenaline-driven experience of combat and a civilian's need for forgiveness.
