An inspired adaptation of Mary Norton's book series The Borrowers, Arrietty is yet another triumph of animation by Studio Ghibli, the creators of Ponyo (2008) and Spirited Away (2001).

Arrietty is a tiny 14-year-old girl who lives with her pint-sized family beneath the floorboards of a sprawling Tokyo mansion. They survive by borrowing items from humans which would otherwise not be missed.

The fate of her family is put in jeopardy, however, when Arrietty befriends a 12-year-old human boy. The film screens in its English-language version.

Arrietty screens at the request of Monique who loves the fact that Arrietty is so small (and also loves a scene where a magpie crashes through the window!) Monique will receive a $25 gift voucher from the ACMI Store for requesting this film. If you have a favourite film you'd like to see on the ACMI big screen, send us your pick!
