| Poachers (Furtivos) |
Released two months before Francisco Franco's death,
Furtivos was perceived as a metaphor for the Spanish society engendered by the dictatorship.
The film centres on the ruthless and jealous Saturna and her meek son. The imposed peace that surrounds them barely smothers a throbbing brutality until Milagros, a young and rebellious girl, enters their lives and unleashes a chain of violence.
Selected by Pedro Almodóvar.
