Northless (Norteado)

In a unique take on the pursuit of the American dream,
Northless follows a young Oaxacan man's quests to enter the United States at the Tijuana border.
Striking cinematography and sparse dialogue portray the life-threatening dangers faced by this would-be migrant. Each time Andres is sent back to Mexico, he returns to Cata and Ela, who run a convenience store. The nuances of their relationships and minutiae of everyday life are depicted with subtlety and sensitivity, and masterfully combined with black humour.
As Andres embarks on his latest attempt to seek a better life on the other side, it is the connection between those who leave and those who stay that makes this tale so sweetly affecting.
