Tango, a Story with Jews (Tango, una historia con judíos)

Gabriel Pomeraniec's documentary presents an unknown history of an extremely popular music genre: the vital Jewish influence in the origins of tango.
A melting pot of cultures and races, Eastern European Jews in the late 19th century found a safe haven Buenos Aires. With them, they brought the klezmer, the festive and deeply lyrical music that lies at the core of tango.
Anecdotes, family memories and forgotten stories are skilfully interwoven to present a set of stories that had remained silent for the vast majority. Amongst these is the story of the tango "Plegaria" giving solace to those shut away in concentration camps.
This entertaining film constitutes a transparent reflection of cultural fusion at its best and is a must see for tango lovers.
