Elia Kazan's profoundly affecting historical epic follows the journey of Stavros Topouzoglou (a characterisation of his Greek-immigrant uncle) from Asia Minor to America at the beginning of the Twentieth century.

Like so many stoic travellers who left their homelands in search of a better life, this young man's journey is marked by courage and determination.

America, America was nominated for Best Director, Best Picture and Best Screenplay at the 1964 Academy Awards.
