Murgas y Murgueros
Murga mixes samba, tango, candombe and capoeria-like elements of dance, music and song. A true mix of African, Indigenous and European influences, murga is a staple of carnaval in Argentina and Uruguay.

Pedro Fernández Mouján's documentary Murgas y Murgueros examines the state of murga in modern-day Buenos Aires, where the murgas (groups of murga practitioners) are an integral part of the local community.

Through interviews with the directors of the city's leading murgas and archival footage of past masters, Mouján uncovers the vibrant history of a fascinating artform.

Melbourne group 'Urucandombe' will present a live performance of Montevideo murga before the screening.
