| A dios Momo |
With a poetic nod to Fellini, this is the charming and magical story of Obdulio (Mathias Acuna), an 11-year-old Afro-Uruguayan boy who supports his grandmother and two younger sisters by selling newspapers on the streets of Montevideo even though he can neither read nor write.
Obdulio dreams of being a soccer star, captaining his national team (like his namesake, the legendary Obdulio 'El Negro Jefe' Varela) and resists all efforts to send him to school.
That is, until one day when he meets 'El Maestro' (Jorge Esmoris), the night watchman of the newspaper printing press who introduces Obdulio to the beauty of words through the lyrics of the Murgas sung during carnival.
