ACMI presents the Australian premiere screening of Christian Marclay's feature length video in which the original soundtrack of Michelangelo Antonioni's film
Blow-Up (1966) is replaced with the soundtrack of Brian De Palma's film
Blow Out (1981).
This substitution reveals unexpected dialogues between the two films by juxtaposing the two main characters, Antonioni's fashion photographer played by David Hemmings and De Palma's sound engineer played by John Travolta.
Through this reworking there emerges surprising audio-visual relationships and dissonances that recall John Cage's writings on the operations of chance.
