Dan Sultan reveals his top five films of all time
ACMI spotlights Dan Sultan in October's Desert Island Flicks event, where the award-winning singer-songwriter will reveal his to his top five films of all time.
Sultan has earned a legion of fans playing his distinctive blend of country, soul and rock 'n' roll, becoming a much loved fixture of the Australian music landscape in the process.
Growing up in the suburbs of Melbourne, Sultan started playing guitar at the tender age of four and wrote his first song at the age of ten. Little did he know that years later his debut single would win Single Release of the Year at the 2007 Deadly Awards and be played on airwaves across the country.
With the release of his second and highly acclaimed album Get Out While You Can, Sultan made his mark on the Australian music scene, collecting multiple Deadly, AIR and ARIA awards for the release and, along with his band, delivered powerhouse performances reputed to be amongst the most talked about shows in the country.
Making his screen debut in the 2009 film Bran Nue Dae, Sultan successfully added a third hyphenate to his professional title and hinted at a longstanding love of film and filmmaking.
Each of ACMI's Desert Island Flicks events present a well known talent, from an industry such as film, television, literature, sport, politics, art, science and culture, in an intimate live event revealing the five films that they would take with them to a desert island. Through a mix of clips and hosted chat, the event reveals fascinating biographical information, career influences and the philosophical insights of the guest of the moment. Desert Island Flicks is a wonderful demonstration of how films can affect and shape us all in long-lasting and profound ways.
