Late Bit to take Game Masters up a level
Mintendo will play on opening night
The Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) will present a program of free live entertainment each Thursday evening to coincide with the extended opening hours of the Game Masters Melbourne Winter Masterpieces exhibition.
From 6pm each Thursday evening during the exhibition, visitors are invited to take their exhibition experience to the next level with a playful and eclectic program of games-inspired music, performances, gameplay and mingling.
On the first night of Game Masters, Thursday 28 June, the Late Bit will become a veritable playground of activity to celebrate the opening of the exhibition. Hosts of ABC TV's Good Game, Bajo and Hex, will preside over a bumper evening of special appearances, friendly game tournaments, roving performers and a live music soundtrack by DJ Supermelody, Mintendo and Late Bit headliner Catcall.
Then, for three weeks, Two Bright Lakes DJs take up residency at Late Bit. Two Bright Lakes DJs - aka Blake Byron-Smith and Tig Huggins - are long-time music lovers and collectors, whose diverse, dance-worthy selections have been moving heads and feet for nearly a decade.
On Thursday 26 July, Late Bit is Levelled Up for 'Versus', a night to divide and conquer your senses. Exploring the concepts of Nerd vs Cool, Game vs Art or Sound vs Music, 'Versus' will see Two Bright Lakes DJs create a musical battleground with ambient pop troubadour Space Cactus and artful soundscape musician Guerre.
Taking up residency for four weeks in August is DJ Ms Butt who will bring her mix of global party tunes spanning reggae, dancehall, hip hop, disco, house, afrobeat, latin, calypso, soul, jazz, and more to Late Bit.
August will end with Late Bit's tribute to 'Game Girls' - a Levelled Up night of female-centric view of games, gaming and music. The 'Game Girls' event will feature tunes by DJ Whiskey Houston, as well as live performances from local wunderkind Piklet and vintage synth darling Seja.
ACMI will extend gallery opening hours until 10pm on Thursday and Friday nights to accommodate evening visitors to Game Masters. Late Bit offers free live entertainment to accompany the exhibition experience on Thursday nights from 6pm to 9pm.
ACMI's Late Bit season runs for the duration of the Game Masters Melbourne Winter Masterpieces exhibition, on until 28 October. The program for September and October late nights will be announced in the coming months.
