green screen event - set in oz
Your host for the evening, Kaye Sera!
As part of the spectacular Setting the Scene exhibition, the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) has a free Family Program event perfect for the summer holidays. To coincide with Australia Day, ACMI is hosting Set in Oz, a green screen event for the whole family to enjoy.
ACMI's green screen workshops are a fun way for families to engage with the Setting the Scene exhibition, it's an opportunity to step behind the scenes and gain an understanding of the magic of cinema. Kids will learn about production design, discover how visual effects are created and green-screen technology works to project characters into created worlds. Set in Oz is a chance for the whole family to acquaint or reacquaint themselves with iconic Australian cinema by re-enacting scenes from some of Australia's most memorable moments on screen.
Screen Events Coordinator Anna Svedberg describes the workshop as "a celebration of some of Australia's most memorable films, and the characters and landscapes that have become Aussie icons as a result: Mick Dundee, Muriel Heslop, The Kerrigan's Pool Room. Set in Oz is a fun way to interact and reinterpret these scenes."
From the domestic and the mundane to the picturesque and wild, the whole family can imagine living like The Kerrigans out near Tullamarine (The Castle), or the Heslops in Porpoise Spit (Murial's Wedding), taking a day trip out to Hanging Rock Reserve (Picnic at Hanging Rock) or hunting crocodiles in the outback (Crocodile Dundee).
To host the event and even perform a few numbers herself will be cabaret singer, writer and media personality Kaye Sera, best known as radio presenter on JOY FM's Breakfast show (94.9FM). Kaye has performed her cabaret act to large audiences all over Melbourne including Midsumma and Melbourne Festival.
Celebrate the good, the bad and the downright cringe-worthy scenes from Australian film with Kaye Sera and your kids in this special Australia Day green screen event. Take a chance and see what happens when you channel your inner Darryl Kerrigan, Murial Heslop, Max Rockatansky and Mick Dundee.
Set in Oz will be held in Studio 1 at ACMI, Federation Square on Monday 26 January from 12pm - 4pm. Admission is Free!
