In Australia to open Tim Burton: The Exhibition on Thursday 24 June, Tim Burton will meet with the successful applicants of the Tim Burton Tour Guide opportunity.
In March, ACMI opened the doors to under 18s from around Australia to submit a three-minute video application demonstrating they have what it takes to be a tour guide. Successful applicants meet Tim Burton during his Melbourne stay, as well as conduct a public tour of up to ten visitors for the highly anticipated exhibition.
Applications came from all parts of Australia with over eligible 70 hopefuls vying for the opportunity. ACMI was impressed with the passion evident in the applications from young Australians aged from nine to seventeen years old.
Screen Events Manager Helen Simondson, who managed the application process, said today: "They've oozed energy, performance ability, passion and engagement, which are all part of what might make a good tour guide. We're looking forward to meeting them all and working with them to craft a tour for the exhibition."
The successful applicants are:
Ella Pace, Caulfield South, VIC
Esther Humphrey, Frankston, VIC
Felix Millar, Kew, VIC
Jennifer Gatchkevitch, Sunshine West, VIC
Nicholas Reich, Broadford, VIC
Paris Morrison, Norwood, SA
Sarah Vafidis, Pakenham, VIC
Tango Conway, Lilyfield, NSW
Their videos can be seen here.
The Tim Burton Tour Guides will work with ACMI's curatorial and public programs staff to craft their unique tour of the exhibition. The format allows them to bring their unique perspective, creativity and style to the tour. Each guide will give at least one tour and times are spread from July to September. Times and dates will be updated on the ACMI website.
Tim Burton: The Exhibition has encouraged fans from all around Australia to visit Melbourne for the opening on Thursday 24 June. Tim Burton will be in attendance for a series of sold-out live events as well as a red carpet appearance and a book signing.
The exhibition explores the full scale of Burton's career, as director, concept artist illustrator and photographer, through hundreds of artworks that spectacularly illuminate the creative vision behind films such as Beetlejuice, Batman, Edward Scissorhands, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Alice in Wonderland.
Tracing Burton's visual imagination from his earliest childhood drawings through his mature work in film, the exhibition brings together over 700 examples of rarely or never-before-seen drawings, paintings, photographs, storyboards, moving-image works, puppets, maquettes, costumes, and cinematic ephemera, and includes an extensive film series spanning his 28-year career.
Tim Burton: The Exhibition, direct from New York's Museum of Modern Art, is exclusive to ACMI in the southern hemisphere and runs until 10 October 2010.
