This year's program ignites with the energy of young Japanese filmmakers in Brain Monkey Sushi: Raw Japanese Cinema, explodes with four decades worth of martial arts in Fu Fighters: Armed and Dangerous, journeys into the far reaches of transgression in Frissons - a spotlight on uncompromising French film, and sways to the infectious rhythms of Mooks Backbeat: Music on Film.
The Festival's new media program Sideshow 03 highlights new commissioned works by Melbourne artists - Vincent Giarrusso's live multimedia event, Eaglehawk, and an exciting online project from the Lycette Bros.
Believed to be long lost, the collaboration between Salvador Dali and Walt Disney, Destino, has been completed and is coming to MIFF, as is the newly restored The Great Dictator by Charlie Chaplin.
Highlights of MIFF's extensive short film programs include works by François Ozon, Guy Maddin and Bristol's bolexbrothers.
