MIFF 60 The Graphic Art of the Melbourne International Film Festival

Friday 1 July - Monday 8 August 2011
Open daily 10am-6pm
Free exhibition > The Balcony, Entry Level

A showcase of the Melbourne International Film Festival's eclectic graphic design, in celebration of their 60th anniversary.

MIFF 60 reveals the stylistic and conceptual shifts in the Melbourne International Film Festival's branding since 1952. From the flat geometric designs of the 1960s, though the psychedelic excursions of the 1970s and the neo-pop surrealism of the 1980s, this striking exhibition provides a snapshot of 60 years of graphic design in Victoria.

Featuring original festival programs, leaflets, photos and other significant design objects, the exhibition celebrates iconic graphic artists Arthur Leydin (MIFF 1953), Max Robinson (MIFF 1954, 1958 and 1961), Richard Beck (MIFF 1963), Brian Sadgrove (MIFF 1973 and 1974) and Gary Emery (MIFF 1978 and 1979) among others.

The 60th Melbourne International Film Festival commences 21 July 2011. For tickets and program details visit http://miff.com.au/

Presented in partnership with the Melbourne International Film Festival. Curated by Kate Callingham (MIFF) and Ulanda Blair (ACMI Coordinating Curator) in consultation with Warren Taylor (The Narrows).
