Animate your autumn

Hands-on Painting Workshop
Hands-on Painting Workshop
Get creative these school holidays with activities for all ages.

The fun begins at ACMI's popular free Kids in the Studio program - this time, an Ink and Paint workshop where imaginations know no bounds. Kids as young as three can learn how animators bring characters and scenes to life using line drawings and coloured paint on animation cels.

Participants in the workshop will take home a colourful film still they've created or animate a sequence using digital colouring tools. The Kids in the Studio drop-in workshop is open weekdays from 11am to 3pm between April 11 and 21.

Budding young film makers aged 10 to 14 years can take part in a three-day film making workshop, Make a Movie: Heroes, Heroines and Villians. Inspired by Disney villains and guided by ACMI staff, creative young folk will write, direct, edit and act in their own short live-action film, and take home a copy of their finished film.

These school holidays will be your very last chance to see our Disney Dreams Come True exhibition, as it must close Tuesday 26 April. Don't miss the opportunity to see this collection of original artworks and discover how artists brought to life some of Disney's most popular fairy tale animations.

The Dreams Come True exhibition features a Kids' Trail complete with an activity sheet (available for download) and you can draw your own fairy tale for the gallery wall in the Kids' Activity Space.

And it wouldn't be school holidays at ACMI without a program full of free and low-cost film screenings for all ages. To coincide with our popular Dream Come True exhibition, we've programmed daily sessions of the animated feature musical The Princess and the Frog and the hilarious new hit film Tangled.

ACMI's autumn school holiday program once again brings together a variety of engaging moving image activities - workshops, films and exhibitions - to occupy and excite young minds.
