The Burton tour guides meet Tim Burton
Our young Burton Tour Guides get down to work.
It's a great gig when you get to meet your idol and score an integral role in their exhibition.
Tim Burton is the Hollywood filmmaker who has directed A-List movie stars such as Johnny Depp, Jack Nicholson, Michelle Pfeiffer and Winona Ryder, dreamt up some of the most loved characters - think Edward Scissorhands and Jack Skellington - and re-created the most frightful villains in the Joker and the Red Queen.
It's no wonder then that so many young folk from around Australia were busting to be involved in Tim Burton: The Exhibition.
Eight young Australians realised their dream to meet Tim Burton when they were granted the opportunity to play Tour Guide to the visiting public for the eponymous exhibition.
During his stay in Melbourne to open the show at ACMI, Mr Burton ensured there was time in his hectic schedule to meet the successful Burton Tour Guides. The guides were spellbound by Burton's presence and over the moon to spend time with and ask him questions. They also spent the day with ACMI and MoMA staff learning about the exhibition and crafting their unique tour to present to the public in coming weeks.

Two young Victorians kicked off the tours last weekend; 17-year-old Esther Humphrey from Frankston and 15-year-old Jennifer Gatchkevitch of Sunshine West each took a tour of ten fascinated visitors through the exhibition, imparting what they learnt from MoMA curator Ron Magliozzi as well as the insight they gained directly from Mr Burton. This is not your regular gallery tour. Each guide also gets to bring with them their own perspective on the work and is given the freedom to present in their own unique style.
This weekend, get to a tour on Saturday to find out from 13-year-old Nicholas Reich the inner workings of Burton's creative process, or hear from 16-year-old Ella Pace on Sunday 11 July at 11am.
Each of these special tours kick off at 11am and last for roughly an hour. The tours are free to attend with your admission ticket to Tim Burton: The Exhibition but each tour is limited to the first ten people who meet at the Batmobile on ACMI's Galleries level.
The remaining tour guides will present as follows; Felix Millar (Sat 28 Aug), Tango Conway (Sun 29 Aug), Sarah Vafidis (Sun 26 Sept) and Paris Morrison from South Australia will present a virtual tour online which will be available shortly.
The application videos of the chosen Tour Guides can be seen here. For more information on Tim Burton: The Exhibition click here.
