Generator: a virtual creative studio
ACMI's Generator
Explore our new education website devoted to the creation of the moving image.
If you have ever been inspired to make your own film, there is now a creative studio online with all you'll need to create your work of art - ACMI's Generator.
ACMI has created an extensive resource website for students and teachers to explore, share and create moving image works that can then be showcased in the Generator Video Gallery.
Learn about creative practice from internationally-recognised screen talent in the Learn from the Makers interviews and education resources, including Rolf de Heer on the making of Ten Canoes and Tracey Moffatt on the power of imagination.
A section on production resources explains concepts such as scriptwriting, storyboarding, editing and sound design. A new storyboarding interactive tool - the Storyboard Generator - allows you to select from over 90 professionally created storyboard cels to create an animated storyboard. You can also upload location photographs, build your own and embed, share the final animated script and storyboard.
If you need copyright-free video footage, images, sound effects and production music to use in your production, you can now download over 1000 different video clips, images and audio files from the Free Media Library. You can also upload your own media to share with the Generator community.
Supporting Generator is the ACMI Educators Lounge a collaborative space where teachers can explore the theory and practice of digital technologies and the ways in which they intersect with existing and emergent classroom practice.
Generator is being launched at the joint ACMI and ALEA (Australian Literacy Educators' Association) conference, Creating Multimodal Texts on Friday 10 September at ACMI. To register for the conference, contact: Ros Mancer mancer.ros.j@edumail.vic.gov.au
