Small wonders

Take a peek at the odd brains of little people with Little Big Shots.
The nation's leading film festival for kids, Little Big Shots includes many concepts that are clearly intended for a supple-minded audience. Consider the following highlights: Bigbox Singsong: Toes, in which a singing box considers the pros and cons of having toes; Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed, in which a mole rat defies family expectation and puts on clothes; and Small Potatoes: Chip's Theme in which Chip sings a heartfelt song about being a potato.
Don't worry if you find these storylines disturbing, the target demo will eat them up, let out an uncivilised little burp and then ask for more. That's how it goes with children. They don't bother themselves with small details like logic or plausibility, but embrace all the props of a joyful imagination, like whimsy, hilarity, mishap, adventure, animal anthropomorphism and singing.
If your little tyke is a fan of the weird and unlikely, the loveable and unruly, the magical and mesmerising, make sure you bring them in this weekend for a Little Big Shots session. The festival runs until Monday 13 June and is suitable for 2-15 year olds, with each session tailored for a particular age group.
Check out the festival program and let your youngsters experience the thrill of a film festival that is literally made for kids.
