Blinging down the house

Come September
Come September
Add some sparkle to your week with Bulgari on Film.

"I wanted to be treated as a wife, not an expensive mistress", says pampered society girl Frances Andros (Elizabeth Taylor) to her estranged millionaire husband Paul (Richard Burton) in Anthony Asquith's romantic melodrama The VIPs. Fair enough, but we suspect that Frances wouldn't be too keen to give up the resplendent jewels she adorns throughout the film.

As the title suggests, The VIPs is a beautiful production about beautiful people, so it seems fitting that costumes designed by the likes of Givenchy and Pierre Cardin are complemented with gems by iconic jewellery house Bulgari (including the diamond and emerald brooch Liz wears in the film which, rumour has it, was given to her by Richard as an engagement present).

The VIPs is part of Timeless Glamour: Bulgari on Film, a season celebrating Bulgari's long association with cinema.

Also screening is Robert Mulligan's romantic romp Come September starring a ravishing Gina Lollobrigida (who, according to Variety, "abets her eye-to-eye appeal with plenty of comedy savvy") alongside Rock Hudson and Italy's picturesque Amalfi Coast.

Robert Altman's satirical stab at the world of fashion, Prêt-â-Porter, pits celluloid legends Sophia Loren, Marcello Mastroianni, Anouk Aimeé and Lauren Bacall opposite modern-day stars like Tim Robbins, Julia Roberts and Kim Basinger (with real-life designers Sonia Rykiel, Christian Lacroix and Jean Paul Gaultier thrown in for verisimilitude).

Plus, don't miss a free illustrated lecture by author and jewellery archivist Amanda Triossi exploring Bulgari's trend-setting history and its contribution to the film industry, both on and off the screen.

Prepare to be dazzled!
