Gotham comes to Melbourne
Tim Burton
ACMI has rocked Melbourne's black socks today by announcing that Tim Burton is coming to town.
Tim Burton will be in town to open the Melbourne Winter Masterpieces exhibition aptly titled Tim Burton at ACMI from 24 June next year.
The exhibition is soon to open in its first incarnation at New York's MoMA and will come direct to ACMI as an Australian exclusive.
Tim Burton is both a retrospective and window into the mind of a true artist. The largest temporary exhibition ever staged at ACMI, it will have over 700 examples of never-before-seen drawings, paintings, photographs, storyboards, moving-image works, puppets, maquettes, costumes and cinematic ephemera, and will spotlight his extensive films - including rare early-career shorts - spanning his 27 year career.
Burton has been busy working a new interpretation of Alice in Wonderland for Disney (to be released March 2010) and visitors to ACMI will be among the first in the world to see items from the film in-person.
An artistic influence for filmmakers and artists the world over, the man himself will be coming to one of the most artistic cities in the world when he visits Melbourne to launch the exhibition.
Tim Burton will open 24 June through to 10 October 2010.
There is much more news to come so watch this space for updates.
Melbourne, you're in for a treat!
